Mbaya named KJCCC Player of the Week
COLBY, Kan. - The Trojans freshman outside-hitter Celia Mbaya earns KJCCC Player of the Week honors in the first week of the regular season.
COLBY, Kan. - The freshman outside-hitter for the Troajns, Celia Mbaya, earns KJCCC Player of the Week honors in the first week of the regular season. Colby Community College swept the competition, winning in straight sets, and returned from Beatrice, NE, with a 4-0 record. The Saint Brieuc, France native had 47 kills, a .337 hitting percentage, 32 digs, and ten service aces last weekend. Mbaya has excelled early in the year and gained conference recognition as a top performer in the KJCCC.
In the season opener against Coffeyville Community College last weekend, Mbaya had ten kills, four digs, and one service ace. As the weekend went on, the true freshman continued to grow and got comfortable in her role.
Against Western Iowa Tech Community College, Mbaya recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs in the three-set victory for Colby. She also recorded a .310 hitting percentage and recorded three service aces.
Mbaya followed up that performance with her top performance this season against Kansas City Kansas Community College. The strong outside hitter recorded 14 kills with a hitting percentage of .632 and nine total digs.
After another 3-0 victory for the Trojans, they moved into their final game of the weekend as they faced the host team Southeast Community College. Mbaya recorded ten kills, eight digs, and three service aces in the weekend's final match. In straight sets, the Trojans moved to 4-0 on the weekend, and Mbaya earned the conference recognition.
