KJCCC wrestling schedule suspended
Postseason matches still on
Because of a rise in COVID-19 and isolation concerns, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference canceled the remainder of the 2021-2022 KJCCC regular-season wrestling duals. Officials say postseason competition is still expected, and taking a break gives student-athletes the best opportunity to compete at the West Central District Tournament and NJCAA National Championships.
Athletic directors and wrestling coaches at the eight KJCCC wrestling colleges met with conference officials last week to discuss the safety issue.
"With the current state of the pandemic, the KJCCC feels that safety of our student-athletes at wrestling colleges needs to be a top priority," said conference commissioner Carl Heinrich.
The 2022 NJCAA West Central District Tournament is set for February 12 in Colby, and the 2022 NJCAA Wrestling Championships are on March 4 and 5 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
