DODGE CITY, Kan. - Colby Community College fell last Saturday at No. 15 Dodge City Community College 78-38. On the road against a top 15th-ranked team is a tough challenge. Dodge City got out to a hot start and never looked back.
The Trojans couldn't keep up with Conqs committing early turnovers leading to baskets and creating a positive offense flow for the home team. Offensive consistency is what Dodge City is built on, and their high-level three-point shooting kept the margin out of hand. The Trojans were able to make some runs in the first half, cutting the lead to nine points on a couple of occasions, but it was not enough as the home team pulled away for good in the third period and just rode it out for the win.
"Winning is hard. Our group fought so hard to get the ho e win over Garden City on Wednesday, but then got a quick lesson on bouncing back for the next game and getting another opponents best game. Our group and this program has to learn how to win and learn how to compete at a high level, regardless of the outcome and be ready to do it every time we step on the floor. As I say A lot, they scored on our offense, not our defense. When we are balanced on offense and focused we usually have good shots which translates into a positive defensive transition. Defensively we have been good in all our games, but it's difficult to overcome the live ball turnovers and rushed shots. We are still learning, but now need to have it show up each time we play. Growth is on-going so we need to keep fighting. We have winnable games coming up and with our focus on reaching the region tournament in March, we have to keep getting after it. We can do it." Said Coach Spence
The Trojans return to the Colby Event Center on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024, to take on Hutchinson Community College at 5:30 p.m. CT.
