Barton brings a lot of size to the floor, making it a tall challenge for teams. A slow start for the Trojans allowed the home Cougars to establish their inside game and score down low. The Trojans settled in and established their always-tough defensive effort, making it hard for the home team to find open shots.
The challenge remains on the offensive end as turnovers led to points for the Cougars in the first half and took the lead to the locker room at halftime.
The second half found the Trojans settling in on the offensive end, and shots started falling, but the hole was too deep to climb out of. An 18-point deficit was the final outcome.
"Once we settled in and realized we can compete, our game plan took hold and we did much better. Our challenge is to have a stronger belief in ourselves and trust the process of what we are doing. We have improved so much this year, and there are several games yet to play, with our goal of competing in the Region XI tournament in March. Moving this program forward is an everyday challenge and it takes all of us. More to come. " stated Coach Spence.
The Trojans will be back in action Wednesday, January 24th, to take on Garden City Community College at 5:30 p.m. CT.
