COLBY, Kan. - The Colby Trojans women's basketball team put up a competitive effort today hosting No. 3 Butler Community College. Dropping the contest by 12 points, 58-46, the Trojans showed signs of taking positive steps forward against one of the top teams in the country. Colby is now 4-8 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
The downfall of the afternoon was the 17 points given up off live-ball turnovers and 12 missed free throws.
"We really competed today, but we aren't interested in playing games close when the goal is to keep growing and get wins. We have to cut down on the live-ball turnovers which lead to runouts for points when we can't get our defense set. We also need to fight the fatigue factor and knock down free throws, which are winning plays. Defensively, we once again held our opponent several points below their average, which always gave us a chance. This group has improved a ton this year and we just need to keep holding ourselves accountable to daily improvement. We are getting closer and there are still winnable games ahead." Stated Coach Spence.
The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday, January 10th to take on Northwest Kansas Tech. at 6:30 p.m. CT.
