Two losses for Trojan Women Entering Break
In their final games before the break, the women's basketball team lost at home to Pratt 76-59 on Dec. 7 and went down 87-47 at Hutchinson on Monday.
A solid opening quarter against Pratt saw Colby shoot 50% from the field and build a 20-13 lead behind eight points from Jayla Sample.
Pratt fought their way back in the second quarter and forced the Trojans into 11 turnovers. Princess Anderson added eight points on six of seven shots as the Lady Beavers went up 36-25 by the end of the first half.
Both teams shot well in the third quarter. The Trojans hit 76% (10-13) from the floor but were matched by the Beavers and were still in a 57-46 hole.
Pratt padded their lead in the final frame and outscored Colby 19-13.
Anderson finished with 28 points and seven rebounds.
Three Colby players scored in double digits, led by Sample with 23 points. Aryanna Perez had 16 points, and Aaliyah Chambers added 11.
Monday in Hutch, the Blue Dragons set the pace early, gaining an 18-7 advantage in the first quarter, and never looked back.
Colby struggled in the second quarter, turning the ball over 10 times and putting up eight points as Hutch increased their lead to 42-15 by halftime.
The offense was more productive after the break when the Trojans got 18 second-half points from Chambers. However, the Blue Dragons' balanced attack added to their lead as they pulled away.
All five starters for Hutch scored in double digits, led by 15 each from Journey Armstead and Monae Duffy.
Chambers led the Trojans with 22 points, and Kali Snow added eight and six rebounds.
Colby will regroup and prepare for a Jan. 4 game at the Colby Event Center against Cowley Community College. The tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
