Softball Sweeps POTW Awards
Trojans' softball teammates took home the weekly awards in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) as Colby won five of six contests. Infielder Kaylee Armstrong was the top player, and the best pitcher was Abby Sims.
In addition to a solid defensive effort, Armstrong crushed four home runs and had 16 RBI while collecting 12 hits. She also walked three times, swiped five bases, and scored nine runs. On the season, the sophomore from Erie, Colo., is hitting .460 and has eight homers.
Sims continued her dominance in the circle, recording three complete-game wins. She allowed just two runs in 21 innings while fanning 24 batters. Her best outing was Sunday when she shut out Southeast Community College on one hit over seven innings. The Syracuse, Utah, sophomore has been the pitcher of the week two other times. Her record is 19-5 with a 2.64 earned run average.
The Trojans are 32-12 and close out the regular season this week with four home games. On Thursday, Garden City comes to Carl Adams Softball Field, and Seward County is in Colby on Saturday. Both doubleheaders begin at 1 p.m.
