Softball Duo Win Conference Awards
Colby Community College softball teammates swept the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) weekly honors as shortstop Shailey Clark was named player of the week, and Abby Sims earned pitcher of the week.
During a week in which the Trojans won five of six, Clark went 12 for 21 from the plate to post a .571 average and continued to have timely hits and solid defense. The sophomore from Great Bend was instrumental in the Trojans' 12-game winning streak that ended in a doubleheader split with 13th-ranked Hutchinson on April 1.
In the circle, Sims won all three games she pitched, going the distance each time while picking up two shutouts. The Syracuse, Utah, sophomore leads the Jayhawk in wins with a 14-3 record and is second with 113 strikeouts. Sims was also the pitcher of the week earlier this season.
The Trojans have a record of 23-9 and are winners in nine of the last 10 contests. On Friday, they host Barton Community College for a doubleheader at Carl Adams Softball Field. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
