Seven Trojans selected for all-conference
Four on first team; three on second team
After winning their second consecutive Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference regular season title, Colby Community College softball landed seven players on KJCCC Division I All-Conference teams. Kaylee Armstrong, Sydnee Hoffman, Laney Shireman, and Jennifer Williams made the first team, and Maysa Averett, Sophie Supernor, and Allison Westbrook earned a spot on the second team.
Armstrong hit .342 with five home runs while driving in 31. The freshman third baseman from Erie, Colo., also swiped 10 bases.
In the leadoff spot, sophomore outfielder Hoffman was second on the club with a .500 on-base percentage. She posted a .449 batting average and led the Trojans in hits (71), runs (57), walks (16), and stolen bases (20). Defensively, the South Jordan, Utah, native committed just two errors in 48 games.
Shireman, a sophomore first baseman from Girard, was the team leader with 67 hits, including 17 doubles, a pair of triples, and nine home runs. In March, she was the conference offensive player of the week after a 10 for 17 stretch when she collected five extra-base hits and eight RBIs.
In her freshman campaign, Williams was third in the western division with 15 home runs. The catcher from Erie, Colo., drove in a team-high 48 runs and walked 15 times.
Pitcher Averett recorded 100 strikeouts in 117 innings. The Roy, Utah, sophomore had the third-most wins in the division with 12.
Johnstown, Colorado's Supernor hit at a .358 clip in her sophomore season with six home runs and 23 RBIs. In the outfield, she only had one error in 41 games.
Westbrook completed her freshman year with an 8-1 record in the circle and striking out 64 in 87.2 innings. She was also solid offensively, carrying a .321 batting average with four homers and 20 RBIs.
There was plenty to celebrate for the Trojans this season. They finished with a record of 31-21, taking 13 of their final 17 games to claim the conference on the last day of the season.
In April, Steve Kinnett notched his 200th career win as CCC head coach. He has a .546 career winning percentage, the best in program history, and his 213-177 record ranks him second in wins.
