Trojan Track With Multiple All-Region Awards
19 all-region performers in 13 events.
The Colby Community College women finished 5th and the men 8th at the Region VI Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 18 and 19 in Pittsburg. Colby completed the meet with 19 all-region performers in 13 events.
For the men, Sanele Masondo won the 5000m in 14:25.16, with Tom Thierry (14:47.35) and Leandre Lahalle (15:26.32) also earning all-region honors in fourth and eighth.
The Trojans took three of the top five spots in the mile. Ricardo Barbosa (4:13.76) was second, Mohammed Baghati (4:14.44) earned fourth, and Aled Jones (4:17.24) finished fifth.
In the 1000m, Barbosa (2:25.69) and Baghati (2:28.81) also placed fourth and fifth.
Kgadi Monyebodi was the lone Trojan in the men's 3000m. He finished in 8:22.87 and took third.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Jaydin Plakaris, Jamal Flowers, Thomas Grant, and Alzavien Houston posted a fourth-place time of 3:15.30.
Elijah Hobson placed seventh in both the long jump (22' 6.25") and triple jump (46' 7.5").
Overall, the men totaled 57 points.
The Trojan women had a pair of one-two finishes by Elif Poyraz and Asli Atan. Poyraz topped the mile run at 5:17.69, followed by Atan's 5:21.03. In the 1000-meter run, Poyraz finished in 3:02.95, Atan ran a 3:10.31, with Nonhlanhla Mabuza in sixth place at 3:12.35.
Emily Diercks took the 3000m in 9:54.03. Tara Bert's 800m first-place 2:23.67 time gave the Trojans a day-two sweep in the distance events. Mabuza also added a fifth-place mark of 2:26.83.
Troynelle Miller ran the 60m in 7.80 and took fifth.
Maissane Jouen also earned All-Region after her eighth-place 5000m time of 20:24.06.
Overall, the women finished with 68 points.
The teams are preparing for the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 3 and 4 at Washburn University in Topeka.
