Tough Week for Trojan Men
The Colby Community College men's basketball team dropped two contests after being edged at home by Cowley Community College 89-83 on Jan. 4 and then losing a Jan. 7 road game at eighth-ranked Dodge City 92-78.
Colby led Cowley most of the game and went up by 11 early before the Tigers cut the deficit to 45-42 heading into the break. The Trojans maintained the advantage in the second half and were up 69-62 with just under 10 minutes remaining. However, the Tigers went on a 9-0 spurt to go ahead while outscoring the Trojans 27-14 down the stretch.
Four Trojans scored in double figures. Anthony Sellars led all players with 25 points, followed by Joshua O'Garro with 23. Mike Bell added 12, and Elijah Wood chipped in 10.
Cowley got 20 points apiece from Mekhi Cameron and Damare Smith.
On Saturday, a hot Dodge City squad made 63% of their first-half shots from the field and built a 53-38 margin by halftime.
Colby held the upper hand to start the second half and clawed back to as close as 11 points, but Dodge's ensuing 8-0 run put the game out of reach.
O'Garro paced the Trojans with 22 points and eight rebounds. Bell made two first-half threes and finished with 18 points. Off the bench, Julius Morris provided 13 points, and Bachir Camara hauled in 12 rebounds.
Five Conquistadors scored in double figures, led by 26 from Jason Edwards.
Next, the Trojans return to the Colby Event Center on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Barton Community College.
