Trojans Ride in Postseason Shows
Five members of the Colby Community College equestrian team competed in postseason events this spring. Riders qualified for regional shows by earning points during the regular season and then had to place in the top two of their regionals class to advance to the Western Semi-Finals or Hunt Seat Zones.
Western Semi-Finals
Four Trojans competed at the IHSA Western Semi-Finals on March 23 and 24, hosted by the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. In the arena were Jenna Milford, Open Horsemanship; Kirsten Miessler, Level II Horsemanship and Ranch Riding; Lily Cannon, Rookie Horsemanship; and Jakeob Stewart, Beginner Horsemanship.
"All of our riders left everything in the arena," said head coach Jessica Bugbee. "It's been fun to watch their horsemanship skills improve and being able to compete on this level."
Stewart will join IHSA Zone 8 Region 5 Western High Point rider Jenna Milford at IHSA Nationals, hosted at Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina, May 3-5.
Results
Open Horsemanship: Jenna Milford, qualifier.
Level II Horsemanship: Kirsten Miessler, 7th.
Level II Ranch Riding: Kirsten Miessler, 5th.
Rookie Horsemanship: Lily Cannon, qualifier.
Beginner Horsemanship: Jakeob Stewart, 4th.
Hunt Seat Zones
Cannon also advanced to the IHSA Hunt Seat Zones hosted by Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., on April 6. She competed in Novice Equitation on the Flat and finished in fifth place.
"We're so proud of Lily. She rode well in a really tough class," said Hunt Coach Sara Jamison.
