Bio

Chelsea Johnson joined the Colby cross country/track & field coaching staff in August 2021.

As a student-athlete at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., Johnson was a two-year captain on the Tiger cross country and track teams. She was a key member of the 2016 Tiger women’s cross country squad that posted the highest finish in program history on her way to NCAA Division II all-region cross country honors. Johnson also earned All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) recognition in the 10,000 meters for her 2018 finish in the conference.

On top of athletic accolades, she has several academic and leadership awards. In 2016, she earned NCAA Academic All-American distinction in cross country. She was also an MIAA Scholar Athlete and won the FHSU Cross Country Leadership Award in 2018.

After completing her eligibility, Johnson transitioned into a graduate assistant role for FHSU during the 2018-2019 year. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance and a master’s degree in exercise science.

In addition to working with the Trojan distance runners, Johnson works full-time as a coach for a digital health company that provides consumers with personalized information, programs, and resources to improve their health. She is also an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified health coach.
