Colby Sweeps KJCCC Week 1 Volleyball Awards
COLBY, Kan. - Colby Community College was awarded all three KJCCC Player of the Week awards for week one of the Volleyball season.
COLBY, Kan. - Colby Community College was awarded all three KJCCC Player of the Week awards for week one of the Volleyball season. Karlotta Kattai was named Offensive Player of the Week, Amanda Caputi was named Setter of the Week, and Camila Canedo was named Defensive Player of the Week. The No. 18 Trojans went 4-0 last weekend in Midland, Texas, including a 3-2 victory over Panola College, 3-0 over Lee College, 3-0 over No. 10 New Mexico Junior College, and a 3-0 victory over Midland College. This weekend, Colby will travel to Cheyenne, Wyoming, for four more non-conference matches.
Offensive Player of the Week (Karlotta Kattai) - Freshman outside hitter from Estonia, Karlotta Kattai, had a big opening weekend for Colby at the Midland College tournament, helping the Trojans go 4-0 to start the season. Kattai tallied 64 kills over 14 sets, averaging 4.57 kills per set. Playing all six rotations in all 14 sets played by Colby, she also had a big presence in the back row, marking 35 digs and passing a 2.3 on 70 serve receive attempts.
Setter of the Week (Amanda Caputi) - Freshman setter Amanda Caputi helped lead the Trojans to a 4-0 start to the season with wins against Panola College, number 10 New Mexico JC, host Midland College, and Lee College at the Midland College Classic. Caputi played in all 14 sets, making a big difference in directing the Colby offense, tallying 168 assists and averaging 12 assists per set. She also recorded five kills, 45 digs, three service aces, and three total blocks.
Defensive Player of the Week (Camila Canedo) - Colby sophomore libero Camila Canedo helped lead the number 18-ranked Trojans to a 4-0 start this past weekend. Totaling 82 digs in 14 sets over the weekend at the Midland College Classic with wins over Panola, number 10 ranked New Mexico JC, Midland, and Lee College, Canedo averaged 5.86 digs per set, including a season-high of 30 digs in Colby's five-set win against Panola College. Canedo's solid serve receive had a 2.3 average on 52 attempts. She was also a threat from the service line, with eight total service aces over the 14 sets.
