Four Sign Volleyball LOIs
Former Colby Community College volleyball teammates Alessia Bergesio, Laura Bogen, Maelie Chupin, and Claudia Font recently signed letters of intent to further their educations at four-year colleges.
Bergesio is headed to Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. Last season she was second in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference with 76 aces and owned the second-best aces per set average (.75). The 5-foot 8-inch outside hitter from Serralunga d'alba, Italy, tallied 324 kills and had 416 digs. Her efforts earned All-Jayhawk West/Region VI Division I honorable mention. The Blue Raiders of LWC are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Mid-South Conference.
Bogen was a defensive specialist for the Trojans and is moving on to Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, W.V., where she will be the Senators' student manager. This NCAA Division II school competes in the Mountain East Conference.
Raleigh, N.C., will be the new home for Chupin, now part of the Bears team at Shaw University. A 5-9 outside hitter from Les Landes Genusson, France, she posted 369 kills as a sophomore and ranked fifth in the conference with 3.55 kills per set. Defensively, she collected 239 digs and nine blocks. Her Trojans career concluded as a two-time Jayhawk West/Region VI second team selection. Shaw is a member and co-founder of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II's Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference.
Font is going to Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. She was a 6-3 middle blocker for the Trojans. The Lady Buccaneers are NCAA Division II members of the Gulf South Conference.
All four student-athletes graduated from CCC on May 12 and made the President's and Vice President's honor rolls every semester.
