Volleyball's Flueras Signs with XULA
Colby Community College all-conference libero and defensive specialist Ruxandra Flueras signed a letter of intent to play for Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans.
From Turin, Italy, the 5-foot-5-inch Flueras was a first team Jayhawk Conference/Region VI selection last season after posting 538 digs and 4.85 digs per set, both of which ranked seventh in the conference. Because of eligibility for Covid-19, she wrapped up her Trojans career as the school's all-time leader with 1,473 digs.
Flueras graduated from CCC in December and began attending XULA in January. Gold Nuggets Head Coach Pat Kendrick believes Flueras has a foundation that will strengthen her new team.
"Ruxandra has proven herself to be not only an outstanding volleyball player but a good person as well," she said. "We're very excited about her joining us. We think she will do great things for our program."
XULA participates in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as a member of the Red River Athletic Conference. The Gold Nuggets went 21-9 last season and have won 12 consecutive postseason conference tournaments.
