Region semis next as Lady Trojans top Barton
Colby takes on Seward Sunday
Tuesday night the Colby Community College Lady Trojans volleyball team advanced to the Region VI semifinal match after an intense five-set win over the Barton Community College Cougars, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, and 15-12.
The Colby Community Building crowd watched the fourth seeded Lady Trojans get to match point in the first set only to see the fifth seeded Cougars score five straight to win 26-24. But Colby rebounded to take sets two and three with 25-20 wins. Barton refused to back down in the fourth set as they closed on a 4-0 run to win 25-21. The Lady Trojans trailed through most of the deciding fifth set but mounted their own 4-0 burst to claim the 15-12 victory.
Three Lady Trojans reached double figures in kills. Julie Archer led the way with 24 and Kristina Mamic contributed 14. Brennah Gaston notched 15 kills and 14 digs, while Melanie Loiseau also had a double-double with 56 assists and 19 digs.
Colby improves to 23-10 and takes on Seward County (32-1) at 2 p.m. Sunday in Liberal. The winner advances to the Region VI championship match.
