Afrifa sets a new Ghana record in the 200m and Two more qualify for Indoor Nationals
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Colby Community College track and field team had two more qualify for nationals, and Anita Afrifa set a personal best in the 200m that places her 23rd in the global rankings.
MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Colby Community College track and field team delivered outstanding performances at the Steve Miller Invitational, on February 7, 2025, at Kansas State University's Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track in Manhattan, Kansas. The highlights of the event are two more Indoor NAtional qualifiers with Javano Bridgewater and Jayden McGregor in the 400m dash. While stand out, Anita Afrifa set a new personal best of 23.26 in the 200m dash, which is a new Ghana record and places her 23rd on the global rankings.
Women's Events:
• 200m Dash: Anita Afrifa delivered a historic performance, setting new meet and facility records with a time of 23.26 seconds. This remarkable achievement not only shattered the previous Ghanaian national indoor record of 23.34 seconds, held by Flings Owusu-Agyapong since February 12, 2016, but also placed Afrifa 23rd in the global rankings.
Men's Events:
• 60m Dash: Van Forbes Jr. secured a commendable 6th place finish, showcasing his sprinting prowess.
• 400m Dash: Javano Bridgewater achieved a personal best of 48.09 seconds, qualifying him for the national championships.
• Teammate Jayden McGregor also set a personal record of 49.10 seconds, underscoring the team's depth in the 400m event.
• 4x400m Relay: The relay team, comprising Redith Stubbs, Jayden McGregor, Kane Epp (a local talent from Hoxie), and anchored by Javano Bridgewater, narrowly missed national qualification by just one second, highlighting their competitive spirit and potential.
These accomplishments reflect the dedication and hard work of the Colby athletes and their coaching staff. The team aims to build upon this momentum as the season progresses, striving for further success and national qualifications.
Next up for the Track and Field program will be the Ichabod Invitational at Washburn University starting on February 14th.
