Afrifa Gains National Honor
Colby Community College freshman Anita Afrifa was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NJCAA Division I Female National Athlete of the Week for April 29 after her performance at Fort Hays State University's Alex Francis Classic on April 27.
Afrifa's wind-aided 200-meter time of 22.97 was the fastest at the meet by 1.53 seconds. The mark also made her the fourth NJCAA woman to run sub-23 under any conditions. She remains the wind-legal seasonal list leader at 23.42 from March.
From Kumasi, Ghana, and a graduate of St. Louis Senior High School, Afrifa is undefeated by collegians of any division at any distance outdoors and leads the NJCAA 100 with a wind-aided 11.44w, while her wind-legal best is 11.66.
This is the first time a female athlete from Colby has been named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season.
