LIBERAL, Kan. - Colby Community College women's basketball took a big step forward but fell on the road 67-60 at Seward County Community College. Competing with high-level focus and composure, the Trojans held the lead for most of the game on the home floor of tradition-rich Seward County.
Executing well on the offensive end in what was our best shooting performance of the season, we proved to be hard to guard when playing the right way. Defensively, we came up with multiple stops throughout the contest.
Although we lost a seven-point game, our Colby program saw many positive things we have been improving on all year. Some early foul trouble made it hard to get into a real rhythm, but I still saw open shots and aggressive drives to the basket for most of the game. Late in the fourth quarter, the Trojans experienced some fatigue and untimely turnovers, allowing the home Saints to take the late lead and pull out the win. There is nothing to hang your head about if you're the Trojans and much to be excited about moving forward.
"We have been improving daily all season long and have been playing much better in our last few games. We could have won the game today and we are disappointed we let it get away from us, but this program hasn't competed that hard and that well in several years. We have to be in those types of games In order to learn and grow as players and as a program. Right now we need to keep working hard and improving each day. Our standard has been set high, and by no means are we happy playing it close. We want to win, but we need to learn and keep growing to reach a higher level. Our time will come." added coach Spence.
Colby will return home to take on Coffeyville Community College on Wednesday, January 17th, at 5:30 pm CT.
