COLBY, Kan. - The Colby Community College (CCC) Women's basketball team got the young season started with a 68-39 victory over the Kansas Wesleyan JV team Sunday afternoon in the Colby Events Center. The Trojans improved to 1-0 on the year and will be back in the Event Center on Tuesday, November 7th, to take on North Platte Community College at 5:30 p.m. CT.
The Coach Spence era is off and running with his "WE DO" vision approach for all to see. Organization, Competition, Enthusiasm, and Execution are some of the staples of his program and how he is building the Trojan program. With solid defense leading the way, CCC played a clean defensive game with only six total fouls and limited KWU JV to six offensive rebounds. Forcing the visitors to several shot clock violations and rushed shots at the end of the clock, the Trojans moved the game's tempo.
"We aren't a typical high-flying run-around JUCO team. We are an execution-based team that requires investment and ownership from all of our players. My "WE DO" approach is about organization, execution, and true competition. This season, in year one, we need to control the pace of each game, and that will improve each day as we spend more time with one another." Stated Coach Spence.
On the offensive end, the Trojans found a groove with their execution, forcing the visitors to play defense, resulting in open driving gaps and open shots. A huge effort on the offensive board resulted in 16 additional possessions. Freshman Sofia Lopez was today's leader with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Sophomore Stella McIntyre with 13 points, and Sophomore Aryana Perez with 11 points.
Trojans are back in action on Tuesday (11-7-23) as they host North Platte (NE) CC in a 5:30 tip-off.
