Pillers signs with SEMO
Colby Community College sophomore Nyrobi Pillers signed a letter of intent to play next season for Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Division I Redhawks compete in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Pillers was a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference second-team selection after averaging 11 points and 7.3 rebounds a game in the 2019-20 season. The 6-0 Atlanta, Ga., native played in 30 games and shot 50 percent from the field.
"Nyrobi's ability to score at the rim, run the floor, go and get rebounds and defend will be a huge asset to us continuing to play the SEMO way," said head coach Rekha Patterson in a news release. "She has an amazing work ethic and we are anxious for her to join us."
Under former CCC head coach Antwain Scales, Pillers and the Trojans went 19-13 and advanced to the Region VI quarterfinals for the first time since 2006.
"Nyrobi was an amazing student-athlete at Colby Community College the past two seasons," said Scales. "She is a direct testament defining a player that we brought into the system and worked extremely hard. I'm thankful for her contribution and excited about her next endeavor at SEMO. It makes me proud that Nyrobi and Afiya [Vincent] both have the opportunity to play Division I basketball next season. It's rewarding to know that the winning culture established at Colby inspired their academic and athletic future."
At SEMO, Pillers plans to continue her education in nursing and healthcare.
