Banguria, Too, Sign with Iowa State
Colby Community College distance runner Wesley Banguria signed a letter of intent to continue his education at Iowa State University next year. Banguria joins Trojans teammate Nehemia Too, who signed with the Cyclones in November.
Banguria, a sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, capped his historic 2019 cross country season by earning the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Male Athlete of the Year award. Four times during the season, he was the USTFCCA national athlete of the week. He became the first male from Colby to win the individual cross country national title and became just the fourth runner in NJCAA Division I history to finish under 23 minutes at the national championships. Banguria won all five races he started during the season.
Though Too missed the 2019 cross country schedule due to an injury, he made his mark during the 2018-19 school year. From Eldoret, Kenya, Too was the runner-up at the 2018 National Cross Country Championships. He went on to claim indoor track national championships in the mile and 5000m. Last spring during outdoor track, Too won the 1500m, 5000m and 10,000m national titles.
