Six All-Americans for Track and Field
Masondo national athlete of the year
The Colby Community College track and field team had six All-Americans, and Sanele Masondo was named NJCAA National Men's Track Athlete of the Year at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 18-20 in Hobbs, N.M.
The men's team finished seventh nationally with 41 team points. The women finished tenth with 25 points.
Masondo won his fifth and sixth national titles as a Trojan. He took the 5,000-meter run for the second year, clocking a time of 14:28.80, and claimed the 10,000m in 30:26.35.
Ricardo Barbosa is a two-time 3000m steeplechase national champion, posting a 9:08.70. He also capped his Colby career by earning All-America honors in the 5000m with an eighth-place 14:54.68 finish.
Kgadi Monyebodi earned two All-America accolades after placing third in the men's 10,000m, with a 30:59.33. In the 5,000m, his fifth-place finish (14:47.15) gave the Trojans three All-Americans in the event.
For the women's team, Elif Poyraz was the national runner-up in the 1500m with her 4:46.70 finish. She took fifth in the 5000m (18:41.98).
Emily Diercks was third place in both the women's 1500m (4:47.67) and 5000m (18:16.44).
Troynelle Miller secured her first All-America honor, placing eighth in the 100m with a time of 11.78.
