Trojans solid in region track meet
17 earn all-region
Seventeen Trojans earned all-region status when the Colby Community College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Region VI Championships on Feb. 19 and 20 in Pittsburg.
The foursome of Luke Sundberg, Dante Sol, Mohammed Baghati, and Ricardo Barbosa handily won the distance medley relay with a time of 9:59.17 and broke the CCC record by five seconds.
The men watched Sundberg also win the 1000-meter run in 2:29.46 and teammate Tom Thierry (2:34.94) take 6th. Sundberg was 6th in the mile (4:20.90), one spot ahead of Baghati (4:21.44). Barbosa (8:14.40) won the 3,000m, while Remi Chavenaud (8:26.56) took 6th. In the 5,000m, Sanele Masondo ran a fourth-place time of 14:40.78, and 6th place was claimed by Aled Jones (14:59.58).
The women's squad also turned in a successful day. In the field events, Saqqary Baker placed 2nd in the weight throw (49'0.25"), and Princess Browne took 4th in both the triple jump (37'1") and long jump (17'10.75". Savannah Adams was 5th in the shot put with a toss of 40'6."
The women's relay team of Briana Reid, Kaylin Hewitt, Danielle Hartwell, and Azriel Chadderton raced to a third-place finish in the 400m. Chaderton was also all-region in the 60m, finishing fifth in a time of 9.08.
Cierra Nord ran the 3,000m in 11:10.86, good for 8th. Regan Hodsden was 2nd in the women's 5,000m (18:33.73), and Nord placed 6th (19:13.89).
The Trojans are preparing for the NJCAA Track & Field Championships on March 3, 4, and 5 in Pittsburg.
