Trojans split in weekend tournament
The Colby Community College men's basketball team went 1-1 at the Northwest Kansas Technical College Classic over the weekend. Colby dropped the Friday night game 75-67 to the McCook Indians but rebounded to take down Strength 'N Motion 97-87 on Saturday afternoon.
Against McCook, Colby was quick out of the gate and opened a 17-point lead, but the Indians trimmed it to nine at the half, 40-31. McCook kept the momentum going, dropping 44 second-half points on 60 percent shooting.
Joshua O'Garro led CCC with 24 points, and Jaxon Pillich added 13. McCook had four players in double figures, led by 19 from Trey Summers.
On Saturday, Colby again raced out to a 15 advantage over Strength 'N Motion, but the lead was reduced before the half, 49-44. The second half was tightly contested, but eventually, Colby pulled away for the victory.
O'Garro led the Trojans again with 27 points. Pillich and Elijah Wood each added 21, with Pillich chipping in nine rebounds. Mike Bell was in double figures with 12. Anthony Sellars just missed a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.
With the win, the Trojans move to 3-3 on the season. They begin a 24-game Jayhawk Conference schedule Wednesday night in El Dorado against Butler Community College. The opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m. after the women's game.
