COLBY, Kan. - Colby Community College returns the Cheer and Dance program to the Trojans Athletic Department starting Fall 2024. The Trojans have brought on a longtime cheer and dance coach, Denita Rodgers, as the Head Coach of the programs. Rodgers has served as the Head Dance Coach at Colby High School for the last 16 years (2008-2024) and served as the cheer coach for two years (2016-2018). Rodgers will start as the Head Coach of the Trojans Cheer and Dance team and will immediately begin recruiting for the Fall of 2024 with Athletic scholarships available.
Colby paused the Cheer and Dance program after the 2019-2020 season and after the COVID-19 delay. The Trojans are excited to bring the teams back to campus and the community and provide more opportunities for those who compete in the area. In the spring of 2019, the Cheer and Dance programs competed at the Region VI Tournament in Salina, Kansas. The team received second place in pom dance and second place in the ex-small coed cheer division.
Rodgers brings her history of coaching excellent programs and years of experience to the Trojans Cheer and Dance program. Coach Rodgers is ready to bring back the program, "Coaching is a passion of mine and I was excited for the opportunity to help bring the programs back to Colby Community College. I think having these teams offers additional opportunities for our local graduates, dancers, and cheerleaders to participate at the college level while getting an excellent education and working toward their Associate Degrees."
The Trojans will look for Rodgers to return the program to where it was and add to the Traditions at Colby Community College. "I look forward to building a solid foundation for the program while hopefully bringing back some old Colby Community College traditions and creating new ones." Coach Rodgers stated when asked about what she is looking forward to. "I also hope to provide additional spirit and energy at the games, encourage more student involvement, and represent Colby Community College and our community in the best way possible. With this being the first year back, I'm so excited to build the program with our new team members and give them an outlet to continue pursuing their love for cheer and dance beyond high school."
The Trojans will have these programs back for the Fall 2024 academic calendar season. If you are interested in joining the 2024-2025 Cheer or Dance program, please fill out the recruitment questionnaire at ColbyTrojans.com and contact Head Coach Denita Rodgers.
