Colby, KAN - In an important conference matchup between Colby Community College and Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas, the Trojans fell in game one with a score of 7-0 and in game two with a score of 19-0. The Trojans' record is now 22-13 overall and 10-4 in conference play, but they are still in the top half of the West standings, holding the third-place spot behind Cloud Community College and Barton.
Game 1 Recap:
Barton jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring two. They added one more run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Colby had a hard time getting the bats going, but ended with four hits in the game. DH Gavin Galenza had a hit, as well as 3B Isaiah Padilla, SS Charlie Langford, and C Chase Kessler.
Sophomore Matthew Mackenzie threw 56 strikes out of 97 pitches, struck out seven batters through six innings, and had an ER of five in the loss.
The Trojans looked to get out to a better start in the next game.
Game 2 Recap:
Again in game two, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring four runs. They then scored one in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and eight in the sixth. Hitting was still a challenge for the Trojans in game two, ending with a total of five. C Jacob Mraz had one, 1B Gavin Galenza had two, SS Isaiah Padilla had one, and DH Matt Murray had one.
On the bases, Matt Murray stole one base in the game.
Colby had four pitchers in this game. Flynn McGahan, Rory MacDonald, Trey Shroeder, and Dallen Rude, who took his first loss of the season.
The Trojans will look to split with Barton after these first two losses. They play on Sunday, April 6th, at 1:00 and 3:30 PM CT.
