Assistant Athletic Director/ Sports Information Director

Bio

Jacob Lawson joined Colby Community College in June 2025 as the institution's first full-time Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director. As a native from Carlsbad, Calif., Lawson brings a strong background in collegiate athletics, communications, and leadership.

Prior to arriving in Colby, Lawson served as the Sports Information Graduate Assistant at Fort Hays State University, where he earned his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership Studies. In this role, he managed social media, maintained the athletics website, assisted with game day operations, produced multimedia content, and supported media relations and statistical analysis.

He also completed a full-time communications internship with the University of Kansas Athletics in 2023, before graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and a Minor in Business from KU.

Lawson is passionate about building relationships across campus and sharing the stories of student-athletes through consistent, engaging coverage. As Assistant Athletic Director, Lawson supports all 14 varsity programs and plays a key role in shaping the voice and visibility of Colby Athletics. 

In his free time, Jacob likes to hike, camp, cook and play basketball.
