New rankings put both cross country teams among elite
Men up to No. 10, women remain 8th
The Colby Community College cross country teams continue to get national attention. In the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association polls the men moved up to No. 10 and the women's team remained the eighth-ranked team
Since the polls came out two weeks ago, the Trojan runners have enjoyed more success. The women took first and the men second Oct. 7 at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open. The women's team is led by sophomore All-American Winnie Kibet. The men are led by the duo of sophomore Oscar Leyva and last week's KJCCC Athlete of the Week, freshman Emmanuel Kipngetich.
"My stance on rankings has not changed," said head coach Cameron Rieth. "We don't put much emphasis on them. If that's what people see us as, great. Thanks for the recognition. However, whatever we are ranked, we will not be content. We are only looking to continue to build, improve daily, and prove it on race day."
Both teams are getting ready for the NJCAA Region VI Championship in Garden City on Oct. 30.
