Kibet named KJCCC Cross Country Athlete of the Week
As the top NJCAA finisher and fourth overall at the Colorado College Invitational on Sept. 9, Colby Community College sophomore runner Winnie Kibet was named the week three KJCCC Female Athlete of the Week. The sophomore from El Doret, Kenya completed the 6k course in 23:01.60.
The honor is another in a long line of achievements for Kibet. In 2016 she was a five-time All-American between track and cross country. She was also named the Region VI Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year after winning the region meet in Hutchinson with a time of 18:28:54, smashing the 5K course record by more than 35 seconds.
"Winnie is quietly putting together one of the best running resumes in the history of our cross country and track programs at Colby Community College," said head coach Cameron Rieth. "She sets high goals for herself and is willing to work so she's in a position to get them. We are very proud of her and can't wait to see what her hard work brings her way."
The CCC men's and women's teams will train for two weeks before resuming competition at the Oklahoma state Jamboree on September 30.
