COLBY, Kan. - The Colby Community College volleyball team racked in two KJCCC and NJCAA Player of the Week honors for last week's performances. Lily-Rose Pichon has been named Defensive Player of the Week, and Anna Gazzerro has been named Setter and Offensive Player of the Week in the KJCCC and NJCAA. These sophomores have helped the Trojans to an 11-5 start to the season and are currently in second place in the KJCCC with a 3-1 record. Last week, Colby went 3-2 with victories over Pratt, Ranger, and Midland but fell to No. 5 Odessa College and No. 4 New Mexico Junior College. NJCAA honors is a national vote, and it is awe-inspiring to receive national recognition for one student-athlete but to receive both awards in the same week is unprecedented.

Her best match was against Ranger, with 34 total digs in the five-set victory, followed by 22 digs against No. 4 New Mexico. Pichon is 10th in the NJCAA in total digs with 297 and is currently third in the KJCCC.
Gazzerro is also a returning sophomore from Padova, Italy, and has earned Setter and Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this year. Colby runs a 5-1 offense, and Gazzerro orchestrates the entire operation. Last week, Gazzerro provided 178 assists in 17 sets, with 10.47 assists per set. She also tied her career high with 54 assists in the five-set victory over Ranger College. Gazzerro is currently fourth in the NJCAA in assists per set with 11.05 and total assists 608.
Colby will be back at Hutchinson Community College on Saturday, September 16th, at 2 p.m. CT. The Trojans will return home on Wednesday, September 20th, to face Garden City, and it will be a Pink Out.
