Trojans win in straight sets 3-0 over Butler
COLBY, Kan. - The Colby Community College volleyball program won in straight sets over Butler Community College on Wednesday evening in the Colby Event Center. The Trojans improved to 11-5 on the year and are currently in second place in the KJCCC with a 3-1 record.

The Trojans improved to 11-5 on the year and are currently in second place in the KJCCC with a 3-1 record. Colby was in control from the start of the match and had similar scores throughout, with set scores 25-16, 25-16, and 25-15. The Trojans' next match will be on Saturday, September 16th, at Hutchinson Community College at 2 p.m. CT.
Early in the first set, Asli Cam connected on a kill down the line that gave the Trojans an 8-3 advantage that forced the Grizzlies to use their first timeout of the set. Colby continued to separate themselves with a block by Alexandra Workman, which gave the Trojans an 18-8 lead. Colby finished off the first set with a kill in the middle by Ilaria Chiericati and an assist by Anna Gazzerro to take the first set 25-16.
To start the second set, the Trojans jumped out to another early 9-5 lead after back-to-back hitting errors by the Grizzlies. Colby's defense continued to propel their success in long points, and after another Workman's kill, the Trojans led 13-9. Chiericati connected on a kill in the middle that capped off a 10-5 run for the Trojans as the lead grew to 23-14. The Trojans took a 2-0 match lead after a 25-26 second set victory.
The third set started with both teams exchanging points early with an 8-8 score early on. Colby went on a 5-1 run to separate themselves 13-9 over Butler, forcing another Grizzlies timeout. The Trojans continued their strong serving, with Lily-Rose Pichon extending the lead to 18-11. Colby closed out the match with a kill from the middle by Ciericati as the Trojans won the set 25-15 and swept the match 3-0.
The Trojans are on the road at Hutchinson on Saturday to take on the Blue Dragons at 2 p.m. CT. Colby will return home on September 20th for Pink Out night as they take on Garden City at 6:30 p.m. CT.
