Colby defeats Pratt 3-0 in the Beaver Dome
PRATT, Kan. - Colby Community College defeated Pratt Community College in straight sets, 3-0, on Wednesday evening. The Trojans improved to 8-3 on the year and 2-1 in the KJCCC with the victory.
PRATT, Kan. - Colby Community College defeated Pratt Community College in straight sets, 3-0, on Wednesday evening. The Trojans improved to 8-3 on the year and 2-1 in the KJCCC with the victory. The final set scores were 25-12, 25-8, and 25-11 in favor of the blue and white. Next up, Colby will travel to Hobbs, New Mexico, for four matches in two days, with the first match vs. Ranger College on Friday at 10 a.m. CT.
To start the match, the Trojans and the Beavers traded off points as the set was tied at seven all. Colby stretched the lead with an ace by Célia Mbaya that gave the Trojans a 10-7 lead. After a 7-0 run by Colby to make it 14-7, Pratt was forced to use a timeout. Boglarka Kiss added another ace that gave Colby a commanding 20-12 advantage over Pratt. The Trojans won the first set 25-12 and closed out the set on a 7-0.
Colby set the pace early in the second set and started the set on a 8-3 run. Pratt did not have an answer for the strong service games by the Trojans as Colby jumped out to a 19-5 lead. The Trojans closed out the second set on a 6-3 run to win the second set 25-8. This was the most dominant set win of the season for the Trojans.
The third set started similarly to the second set, with strong serving by Lily-Rose Pichon had the Trojans in the lead 8-4. The Trojans led 17-11 after a kill by Viola Giangreco that sparked a 9-0 run to close out the third set. Lily-Rose Pichon went on to serve out the match as Colby won the set 25-11.
With the victory, the Trojans are now tied for second place in the KJCCC and will travel for a non-conference tournament at New Mexico Junior College. On Friday, Colby will take on Ranger College at 10 a.m. CT and Midland College at 3 p.m. CT. Saturday, the Trojans will face off against Odessa College at 10 a.m. CT and then face the host No. 4 in the NJCAA New Mexico Junior College at noon.
