Volleyball recognized for academics
3.82 team GPA
The 2019 Colby Community College volleyball team was recently recognized for their academic efforts by earning the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The honor highlights collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.
The Trojans, who also posted a 24-7 record and advanced to the Region VI finals, finished the academic year with a 3.82 GPA. It marks the ninth time in 11 years a team under Coach Carey Jones earned the Team Academic Award. In addition, the squad was one of six two-year schools nationally to make the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll.
"This award really speaks to what a well-rounded program Coach Jones has built," said CCC Athletic Director Mike Saddler. "Year-in and year-out they represent Colby at the top of the standings on the court and in the classroom. For the team to have the kind of success they did playing volleyball is great, but when you add such an outstanding year in the classroom, given everything else going on, it is simply amazing."
Additional information on the award is available on the AVCA website.
The 2020 Trojans will practice during the fall semester in anticipation of the pandemic-delayed season that begins in January.
