Former volleyball standout goes pro
Aleks Malec heading to France
Former Colby Community College volleyball player Aleksandra Malek signed to play with Volley Club Gruissan, a professional team in southern France.
The outside hitter from Pszow, Poland, played for the Trojans in 2015 and 2016. She was a second team all-conference selection as a freshman. In 2016, she finished third nationally with 501 total kills and 4.6 kills per set, earning Jayhawk Conference most valuable player and a place on the Region VI first team and All-American second team.
She ranks third in school history in both kills (938) and aces (137).
Malek transferred to Oakland University, where she played for the Golden Grizzlies in 2017 and 2018. In 203 sets, she racked up 409 kills and posted 19 career matches with double-digit kills.
"We are so proud of all that Aleks accomplished at Colby, Oakland, and now in France," said Colby Head Coach Carey Jones. "She has worked hard to make her dream of playing professional volleyball come true, and I couldn't be more excited to see where this journey takes her."
