Volleyball academics thrive among peers
2018 team's 3.70 GPA near the top
The historic season for the 2018 Colby Community College volleyball team continues to get recognition. This time, it is for the Trojans' work in the classroom.
For the eighth time in 10 years under head coach Carey Jones, last year's team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The honor highlights collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.
The Trojans had a 3.70 GPA, making them one of just 21 two-year college programs in the nation to be recognized. Additionally, Colby was one of five schools to make the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll.
Scholastic excellence complemented the character of a group that also enjoyed success on the court. The Trojans posted the most wins in program history with a 27-4 record and advanced to the Region VI semifinals.
The full list of teams receiving the award is available on the AVCA website.
The 2019 team is preparing for their season opener Aug. 23 and 24 at a tournament hosted by Casper College in Casper, Wyo. The first home match is August 31 against Butler Community College.
