Jestratijevic to UMES
Colby Community College volleyball player Anica Jestratijevic signed a National Letter of Intent Tuesday to continue her volleyball career at the University of Maryland Eastern Shores in Princess Anne, Md. The Hawks of UMES compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
"I am excited for having a chance to continue my education and volleyball career because the coaches are great and the program is organized very well," Jestratijevic said. "I'm looking forward to meeting the team!"
In limited playing time due to a torn ACL, the 6-0 outside hitter from Arandjelovac, Serbia, had 136 kills in two years at Colby.
"It has been a challenging road for Anica due to her injury but she never once gave up," said Colby volleyball coach Carey Jones. "She truly deserves this opportunity, and I have no doubt all of her hard work and resiliency will pay off."
Jestratijevic says the injury made her time at CCC the most challenging two years of her life, but she persevered because of support from the community, her family, and teammates.
"It would definitely not be impossible without my team, or better said, my family. They have always been by my side and even after the injury. I am so thankful and proud for being a part of this amazing program where I had the opportunity for improving myself every day on the court and in class."
Academically, Jestratijevic intends to study economics. She is the third Trojan in recent years to transfer to UMES after earning a degree at CCC. Andjela Reljic (2014) and Maja Jankovic (2017) also played for the Hawks.
