Trojans win at Pratt
Win streak now at 7
Double-doubles by Julie Archer, Alex Merle, and Kyndal Bacon led a balanced attack as the Colby Community College volleyball team picked up a Jayhawk Conference win at Pratt Wednesday night, 25-18, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-20.
"We felt like both teams had a great defensive match, so we had a lot of long rallies," said Trojans head coach Carey Jones. "That's something we plan for when playing Pratt."
Archer had 16 kills and 19 digs while Merle added 13 kills and 26 digs. Bacon, voted the week two conference setter-of-the-week, tallied another 46 assists to go with 24 digs.
Freshman middle blocker Milica Djukic also notched 13 kills. Jones said many of those came when the Trojans needed a boost.
"Offensively Milica stepped up in the third and fourth sets, and it helped open up some options for our pins."
According to Jones the Trojans, now 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Jayhawk, responded well to Pratt's runs although intensity lacked at times.
"We'd really like to see more energy on the road, but this was a good challenge for us before we head into a tough tournament and see Hutch next week."
Colby heads to a non-conference tournament Friday and Saturday in Irving, Texas, before the Blue Dragons visit the Community Building Sept. 12.
