First Indoor Meet Impacts School Track and Field Records

The Colby Community College track and field teams opened the indoor season with 10 national qualifying efforts on Saturday and Sunday at the University of Nebraska's Graduate Classic in Lincoln, Neb.

For the women, Tara Bert finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.66, which is the seventh-best all-time at Colby. 

The distance medley relay squad of Emily Dierks, Kirsten Marcotte, Asli Atan, and Maissane Jouen also qualified for regionals after placing seventh overall but first among two-year schools. Their time was 13:04.73.

Other notable achievements came from Troynelle Miller, who ran a personal best of 7.88 in the 60m and moved to fifth all-time in CCC history.

Dierks now owns Colby's fourth-fastest time in the mile after clocking a 5:20.36.

The men's team saw Tremaine Browne break the school record in the long jump after soaring 23 feet, 10 inches. Latrell Taylor is now third all-time at Colby in the triple jump with a 46'8.25" mark.

On the track, Jamal Flowers was first in the 60m at 6.78, the second-fastest ever at Colby. Sanele Masondo qualified for the 3000m with a sixth-place finish in 8:32.64. Mohammed Baghati was fifth in the mile at 4:17.70.

Kgadi Monyebodi narrowly missed qualifying in the 3000m with an 8:45.17.

The Trojans are back in action on Saturday in Topeka, competing in the Washburn Rust Buster at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
