New records for Trojan track at regionals
Several Trojans finished in the top eight to earn all-region honors when the Colby Community College track and field teams competed at the NJCAA Region VI Indoor Championships in Pittsburg Feb. 21-22.
For the women, Abigael Kemboi claimed the 5000m title in 18:14.09, nearly 40 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.
Halutie Hor earned all-region and owns new CCC records in the 60m dash (7.56) and the 200m (24.61).
Other all-region performers include Victorine Kiprop in the mile (5:40.2) and 3000m (11:28.35), and Claire Jeptanui in the 3000m (11:56.21).
In the men's 5000m, Wesley Banguria broke the national record with a time of 13:43.29. The future Iowa State Cyclone eclipsed the previous mark by eight seconds in the process of setting a new CCC record. In the same race, Micah Too made all-region for his time of 15:33.92.
The men's team also got a fourth-place finish from Arthur Berthelin in the 3000m after running an 8:58.7.
The Trojans now prepare for the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lynchburg, Va., on March 6-7. Those who have qualified are listed below.
