Trojan wrestlers split at home tri-meet
The Colby Community College wrestling team split their season opener Nov. 3 at the Colby Community Building against Iowa Western Community College and Otero Junior College.
The day started rocky for the hometown Trojans as they fell to the tenth-ranked Reivers of Iowa Western by a score of 46-6. The lone victory came from Sean Jackson at heavyweight winning by injury default.
In the final match of the day, the Trojans won the final six matches to defeat Otero 32-15. Winning wrestlers for Colby were Rhett Miner at 133 pounds in a 15-2 major decision over Orelious Steele; Taylor Clay (157) in a 15-8 decision over Tristan Eskridge; Dino Baldes (165) in a 12-2 major decision over Logan Robb; Austin Hacker (174) won by forfeit; and Aiden Smith (184) beat Nice Ponce in a 12-6 decision. Trojans picking pins were Johnnie Perkins at 197 over Connor White-Shrum and Sean Jackson (285) won by fall over Dominic Gould.
CCC will be back in action Nov. 10 as they travel to Greely, Colo. to compete at the Northern Colorado Open.
