COLBY, Kan. - Colby Community College competed well against Pratt Community College but fell late 62-58 on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans were focused on securing both sides of the ball in the first half, looking to get another win and improve their Jayhawk Conference standing. Good ball movement, shot-making, and the always-present challenging defensive play had the Trojans looking good.
With a ten-point lead at the half, the Trojans came out ready to begin the third quarter. The challenge was not just hanging on but winning each possession with the same focus and intense execution. Missed open shots and untimely live-ball turnovers allowed the visitors to get their offensive game on track, and the battle was on. Ultimately, the Trojans couldn't sustain the mental focus and lost by four.
"We have come so far this season, but it's just not enough. Being able to sustain a mental effort and focus for four quarters is what's needed and we just aren't able to do it for whatever reason. We missed five free throws in a four-point loss, so whatever else happened, we still had it in our control. It's frustrating in many ways, but all we can do is just keep working and being prepared each day." Added Coach Spence.
The Trojans will travel to Concordia, Kansas, on Wednesday, February 14th, to take on Cloud County at 5:30 pm CT. Colby will return home on Sunday, February 18th, to take on Cowley College at 2 pm CT.
