Seward's quick start takes down Trojans
The Lady Saints of Seward County Community College ran out of the gate fast and never looked back in a 94-52 win over the Colby Trojans on Tuesday night at the Colby Event Center.
Seward opened the game on a 10-0 run. Colby responded, but the Saints kept answering possession after possession with 3-point plays by guards D'Arrah Allen and Ariana Escalante to hold a 25-7 advantage after the first quarter. Seward widened the lead and knocked down nine 3-pointers by halftime, putting the Trojans in a 49-19 hole at the break.
Colby shot 42% in the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Though both teams made 39% of their field goal attempts for the game, Seward took 32 more shots and forced the Trojans into 37 turnovers.
De'Shawnti Thomas posted a double-double for the Lady Saints with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Allen tallied 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
Aaliyah Chambers led Colby with 17 points. Jayla Sample added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Kali Snow recorded her first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Trojans return to the Event Center Saturday as they host Coffeyville Community College at 2 p.m.
