All-conference for two women's basketball players
Pillers, Vincent all-KJCCC
After being part of the program's first winning season in 14 years, Colby Community College women's basketball players Nyrobi Pillers and Afiya Vincent were recognized by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference for their performances this season. Pillers was a second-team selection, and Vincent received honorable mention.
Pillers averaged 11 points and was fifth in the western division with 7.3 rebounds a game. The 6-0 sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., played in 30 games and shot 50 percent from the field. She turned in a big performance in the Trojans' first-round playoff win over Independence when she put up 12 points and 13 rebounds.
At 6-4, Vincent finished fourth in the division with 7.4 rebounds per contest. The Trinidad and Tobago sophomore played in 29 games and averaged 5.6 points. She will continue her career next season at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Under second-year coach Antwain Scales, the Trojans went 19-13 and advanced to the Region VI quarterfinals for the first time since 2006.
"I am extremely proud of both young ladies and our team," Scales said. "This recognition is a true testament that hard work pays off. They are great students too, who believed in the building process of turning our program into a consistent competitor."
