Women's basketball gets by Northwest Tech
CCC wins 68-55
The Colby Community College women's basketball team held off a late surge by Northwest Kansas Technical College Wednesday night at the Community Building to win 68-55.
Though the teams were even at 12 to end the first quarter, the Trojans opened the game in the second with the help of making 10 of 11 free throws to take a 31-20 lead into the break.
The margin grew in the third quarter to as many as 19 but quickly evaporated in the final period. With 2:38 remaining, a bucket by Northwest Tech's Taylor Watkins made it 58-52. A pair of Sia Williams free throws broke the Colby drought, and the Trojans got back on track to close on a 10-3 run.
Tamia Mobley had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kiara Knight tallied 10 points, and Michaela Bethel added 13. Kaitlyn Guillory grabbed 11 rebounds.
Northwest Tech was led by Arianna Harper's 17 and got 16 from Josie Cook.
Colby improves to 8-9 overall and 3-6 in the Jayhawk Conference. The Trojans are on the road Saturday for a 5:30 tip with Barton Community College (12-5, 5-3).
