Colby women get second conference win
CCC over Coffeyville, 59-51
In the first of four Jayhawk Conference games in seven days, the Colby Community College women's basketball team rallied to beat Coffeyville 59-51 Wednesday night at the Colby Community Building.
After the Trojans held a 20-19 halftime lead, the Red Ravens opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run. Coffeyville stayed on top until the 6:38 mark in the final quarter when a pair of Kaitlyn Guillory free throws put Colby up 42-40. The Trojans' lead grew to as many as nine before the contest ended.
Though shooting just 25.6 percent from the floor, Colby made 27 of 36 free throws. Guillory notched a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Tamia Mobley controlled the glass with 17 rebounds and Jordan Dixon added 11 points.
"I'm proud of the win," said Trojans Head Coach Antwain Scales. "We will continue to take these games one at a time and work hard in the process of building something special at Colby."
The Trojans pull to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference. They now look to Saturday's 3 p.m. matchup with Independence (6-8, 1-6) at the Community Building.
