Trojan women fend off Red Devils
Strong finish from the line cements 79-73 win
The Colby Community College women's basketball team got their first Jayhawk Conference win Sunday at the Colby Community Building as they beat Allen Community College 79-73.
Though first-year head coach Antwain Scales got his first conference victory, he is looking at the larger picture.
"It's a process, and we're working hard every day to get better," he said. "That's taking each contest one game at a time and focusing on the things we can control."
The Trojans were up by as many as 12 in the first half but saw Allen close the gap to 34-32 by intermission.
The Red Devils tied the game at 37 early in the third quarter before the Trojans went on a mini 4-0 run and never relinquished the lead.
Colby, with a record of 5-6 overall and 1-3 in the KJCCC, had five players in double figures. They were especially good from the free-throw line in the final minute, going 9 for 12. Kaitlyn Guillory turned in a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
The Red Devils (2-11, 0-4) were led by 24 points from Jakira Wilson.
In the final game of the semester, Colby hosts North Platte Community College beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
