Lady Trojans fall to Coffeyville
CCC loses 67-54 in final game of the semester
Turnovers plagued the Colby Community College Lady Trojans basketball team Sunday as they dropped their final game of the semester to the Coffeyville Red Ravens, 67-54.
"It was a tough loss going into the break," said Colby interim head coach Shareka Maner. "Turnovers really hurt us."
The Lady Trojans turned the ball over 26 times and shot 33 percent from the floor.
"Not taking care of the ball limited our chances to execute on the offensive end of the floor," Maner said.
Colby, now 4-9 overall and 2-7 in the KJCCC, trailed 37-23 at half time but rallied to face a more manageable 52-43 deficit at the end of the third quarter. However, turnovers down the stretch stifled hopes of a comeback as the Red Ravens outscored the Lady Trojans 15-11 in the fourth.
Meona Leonard led four Colby scorers in double figures with 14 points. Meagan Woodward added 12 and Tierra Itula had 10. Kaitlyn Guillory just missed a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Coffeyville (8-5, 6-3) got 15 points from freshman Nalon Smith and 14 points from Sky Jasper.
After the holiday break the Lady Trojans resume conference play Jan. 4 at Neosho Community College (5-8, 2-7). Tip-off from Chanute is at 6 p.m.
