Kinnett Retires as Trojans Softball Coach
COLBY, Kansas—Head Softball Coach Steve Kinnett has immediately retired from the Trojans program.
COLBY, Kansas—Head Softball Coach Steve Kinnett has immediately retired from the Trojans program. Coach Kinnett has been with the Colby Softball program since 2013 and has posted a 313-229 (.577) career record. During Coach Kinnett's tenure, the program recorded six 30-plus winning seasons and won the program's only KJCCC Western titles in 2019 and 2021.
In his Colby tenure, Kinnett was named the 2019 Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after his club won the program's first regular-season conference title while posting a national-best 3.67 grade point average among 131 colleges. The 2020 Trojans repeated as conference champions with a 3.66 GPA. Over the years, his teams have been seen in the community assisting organizations such as Special Olympics, the Colby After School Program, and various Colby Recreation Department activities.
Before Colby, Coach Kinnet Kinnett was in Bailey, Colo., after retiring from a 25-year career as a contractor. He brought more than 420 wins with various "A" travel clubs in Colorado and a winning percentage over .700.
Coach Kinnett leaves a lasting impression on the Colby Softball program and the excellent program on and off the field. We thank Coach Steve Kinnett for everything he has done for the institution, the program, and the community.
According to Colby's Athletic Director Kenny Hernandez, a nationwide search for the new Trojans head coach will begin immediately.
"Thank you to Coach Steve Kinnett for his eleven years of service at Colby Community College and to the community," Hernandez stated. "We wish Coach Kinnett nothing but the best in his well-deserved retirement."
